"Mortise Lock" Step by Step Selector Guide
  Trying to figure out which Mortise Lockset will be right for you? Simply use the easy to follow instructions and steps outlined below. There are 3 items of information you need to obtain and notate. 1) Your Measurements. 2) Your Mounting. 3) Your Handing.
1) Your Measurements.
Measurement a): The Backset.
Please measure the Backset from where you insert the key or from the center where a lock was previously installed to the edge of the door.
Measurement b): The Faceplate.
Please measure the Height and Width of the Faceplate or the area where this plate is normally installed.
Measurement c): Escutcheon Plates.
Please measure Height and Width of both escutcheon plates. these are the outside plates on either side of the door visible to the eye and which are holding the lock and handle in place.

2) Your Mounting.

a) Surface Mount.
If the Escutcheon plates on the inside and outside of the door are mounted with a screw in each of the 4 corners of the plates [see photo above] your lockset is 'Surface Mounted'.

b) Through Bolt.
If the Escutcheon plate on the outside of the door is mounted with no exposed screws showing and the inside plate have 3 screws down the cnter of the plate including one above and one below the knob [see above photo] your lockset is 'Through Bolt' mounted.

3) Your Handing:


Upright Installation: Cylinder Top Knob Bottom

a) Standing Outside: Lock On Right, Door Swings In. Cylinder Top Knob Bottom. Choose Left Hand Lockset


b) Standing Outside: Lock On Right, Door Swings Out. Cylinder Top Knob Bottom. Choose Left Hand Reverse Lockset


c) Standing Outside: Lock on Left, Door Swings In. Cylinder Top Knob Bottom.
Choose Right Hand Lockset


d) Standing Outside: Lock on Left, Door Swings Out. Cylinder Top Knob Bottom. Choose Right Hand Reverse Lockset


Reversed Installation: Cylinder Bottom Knob Top


e) Standing Outside: Lock on Right, Door Swings In. Cylinder Bottom Knob Top.
Choose Right Hand Lockset


f) Standing Outside Lock on Right, Door Swings Out. Cylinder Bottom Knob Top. Choose Right Hand Reverse Lockset


g) Standing Outside: Lock on Left, Door Swings In. Cylinder Bottom Knob Top. Choose Left Hand Lockset


h) Standing Outside: Lock on Left, Door Swings Out. Cylinder Bottom Knob Top. Choose Left Hand Reverse Lockset

When purchasing multiple locks "Keyed Alike" is Industry Term to indicate that all the locks can be accessed by the same set of keys. Keyed alike can be performed and installed when all the locks share the same keyway "Keyed Alike" cannot be performed on Locks which are from cross keyways.

When purchasing multiple locks "Master Keying" is Industry Term to indicate that all the locks, although operated independently by an individual unique set of keys, can also be accessed by a single master key.

When purchasing multiples of exactly the same type of lock "Keyed Different" is Industry Term to indicate that each lock should have its own unique set of keys as opposed to all the locks being Keyed Alike.
