The variable force is controlled with the user's grip, the tighter you squeeze the more clamping pressure is applied. It locks in position and has a quick release trigger that removes the clamp from work. It is a 1-hand operation and has durable glass-filled nylon construction. It has a clamping pressure of 75 pounds, a maximum opening size of 2 inches, and a throat depth of 2 inches.
